Fisherman rescues drowning child
A five-year-old girl is in a serious condition after nearly drowning off Amanzimtoti's main beach.
ER24's Derrick Banks says the child had been playing in the water when she got swept out to sea at around 11am.
She was pulled to shore by a fisherman who had seen her disappear under the surf.
Banks says the girl was under water for more than five minutes.
"ER24 paramedics rushed to the scene and found the girl on the sand after being rescued. She was stabilised, but was still in a very serious condition, and was transported to Prince Mshiyeni Hospital," he said.
