Woman critical after bee attack

An elderly women from Mountview in Verulam is recovering in hospital after being stung by a swarm of bees.

The women - believed to be in her early 70s - was stung numerous times after her dog disturbed a hive in her garden.

Staff at security company, Reaction Unit South Africa, were called to the scene shortly before 12pm today.

They found the woman lying on the side of Katzkop Road, about 200 metres from her house.

It's believed that the agitated swarm flew into the woman's home.

She was stung many times and ran from the house to try and get away from the bees.

Neighbors found the woman lying on the side of the road - covered in stings.

Several residents had applied various home remedies to the stings to try and counteract the poison, while waiting for the paramedics.

Witnesses say she was rushed to a local doctor when she started having difficulty breathing, and from there moved to a hospital in a critical condition.
