Cape Town - One person died in a fire which destroyed about 120 shacks in Langa on the Cape Flats, fire and rescue services said on Tuesday.
The fire started around midnight on Monday, said Theo Layne, Cape Town fire and rescue services spokesperson.
Layne said the person who died has not yet been identified.
More than 850 people were displaced by the fire, he added.
A firefighter was admitted to hospital due to smoke inhalation and was discharged on Tuesday morning.
"The fire has been extinguished and the cause has not been established," he said.
