Around 24 new firefighters could be on duty in Cape Town in time for the busy fire season between October and March.
Cape Town fire services said it had reduced a list of prospective firefighters to 146 in a quest to hire 24 new recruits this year.
Recently, hundreds of hopefuls were put through a rigorous application process to make a shortlist.
The services’ Theo Layne said their next hurdle was to face a panel of interviewers.
“We have done the physical education process, this week we will start the interview phase. Candidates that are chosen will start training later this month.”
