Confusion raine in Kwazulu Natal as certain officials cannot count the dead!!

The SAWDOS has just released TS Irina death toll figures relating to TS Irina which has risen to 72. The figure of 72 in the effected countries are listed as: Mozambique 2, South Africa 5 and Madagascar 65.

Just as the SAWDOS thought that we can rely on the casualty figures for TS Irina released by officials, it appears that they cannot count. Eish this is embarrassing! Three of the four people feared drowned in northern KwaZulu-Natal because of the tropical storm, are very much alive, authorities confirmed earlier today. The SAWDOS is glad that the are alive and well, but how does authorities make a mistake like this.

A person is either dead or missing. What do authorities not understand. How difficult can that really be. If a peson is missing for 3 days he is not presumed to be dead but listed as missing. He is only presumed to be dead once a court of law has declared him presumed dead. Dead is dead an missing is missing. Big, Big difference!!

When authorities cannot count or issue wrong information during a time of disaster, they make other organizations look like fools but not only that they spread confusion, uncertainty and worst of all, people lose trust in their ability to handle disasters. The issue of incorrect information could have a detrimental effect on the general public, the family of people missing and the image of those who take control of the Disaster. This is really embarrassing. I am not out to discredit or flame those responsible but in a time of disaster we must be accurate with all information. I am really ashamed to write this article. Hopefully those in charge will in future not make the same mistake and learn from this very bad incident.
