The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many South Africans. To obtain critical weather information, the SAWDOS use voluntary weather observers. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe and informed by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the SAWDOS for publication on the Blog. The SAWDOS is a non-profit organization that renders a FREE COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICE.

Fire leaves 40 people homeless Europe Informal Settlement in Gugulethu
A fire occurred at 20:01 on Saturday, 08 December 2012 at the Europe Informal Settlement off NY108 in Gugulethu.
The fire destroyed ten (10) wood and iron structures causing the displacement of forty (40) persons.
The City’s disaster response teams aided the families with food parcels, clothing, blankets and building material; including five baby packs.
No persons sustained any injuries and the cause of the fire is undetermined.
