The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many South Africans. To obtain critical weather information, the SAWDOS use voluntary weather observers. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe and informed by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the SAWDOS for publication on the Blog. The SAWDOS is a non-profit organization that renders a FREE COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICE.

Fires Across Angola, Zambia and the DRC
Hundreds of fires continue to dot the terrain across Angola (left), Zambia (right) and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (above); previous images of fires in this region can be seen here. While many individual plumes of smoke can be observed, the fires also create a general smoky haze that looms over the left side of the image. Most of these fires are likely agricultural in nature.
