City of Cape Town officials say 13 people have drowned at bathing spots in the Cape Peninsula since the 1 November 2011.
In the most recent incident, a young boy drowned at Harmony Park Resort near Strand on Sunday.
At the same time, a man died after finding himself in distress at Monwabisi Beach near Khayelitsha.
City officials say at least four people lost their lives at beaches this weekend.
On Saturday, a 36-year-old drowned in a tidal pool in Gordon’s Bay resort.
On the same old, 58-year-old Roland Singh died after being stung by blue bottles at Strand Beach.
He was allergic to the sting.
“Most of these incidents occurred where people were bathing outside their designated areas, where it was safe to swim," said disaster management’s Wilfred Solomons-Johannes.
In another incident, the body of four-year-old Abukhwe Themba from Gugulethu washed up on Strand Beach in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Police are investigating the child’s death.
