Cape Town firefighters will remain on high alert on Monday following a busy day dousing several blazes across the city on Sunday.
At one stage, fire engines and crews were attending to 15 small to large fires fuelled by strong winds and temperatures exceeding 30 degrees.
A crew who called out to Macassar, battled for several hours to bring a large vegetation fire under control.
Cape Town Fire Services’ Theo Layne said firefighters are mainly trained to deal with vegetation fires during the summer months.
“They go out especially with the larger vegetation fires and also the fires which vehicles cannot access. The ground crews walk around the bush and deal with these fires."
It is all hands on deck at this time of the year.
“We have the normal permanent force of firefighters then we have seasonal firefighters that assist with vegetation fires. They are spread throughout the city,” he added.
