A four-year-old child was injured in a violent storm in Bloemhof, North West, the Lekwa Teemane municipality said on Monday.
“A four-year-old child was admitted to the Tshepong Hospital in Klerksdorp in a serious condition after he suffered a fractured left hand. More than 30 people suffered minor injuries,” said mayor Moeder Makodi.
She said the storm on Sunday night took the roofs off houses in Coverdale and Boitumelong. Trees were uprooted, and pipes and electrical cables were damaged.
“We are still collecting data and the figure might rise,” said Makodi.
She said the SA Security Agency (Sassa) had offered to provide mattresses to those displaced.
A meeting between the municipality, the police, the provincial health department and the district disaster management team would be held later on Monday to assess the damage and how to assist those affected.
