The Western Cape's wildfire season has started with a massive blaze in the mountains outside Tulbagh in the Winelands.
About150 firefighters are trying to extinguish the fire which started in the Waterval Mountains on Saturday.
It has since spread to the other side of the mountain, necessitating the use of four helicopters water bombing the area.
Cape Winelands District Municipality’s Roysten Harris said, “The fire is burning in the plantation. We are trying to contain it there…we are probably going to be here whole day. If the weather changes, it will probably make things worse for us.”
Meanwhile, firefighters are hard at work trying to contain a fire on Signal Hill.
Cape Town Fire Service’s Theo Layne said, “There is no property in danger. At the moment it doesn’t look like a very serious fire, but the wind conditions will determine how quickly they will put it out.”
