A mineworker has died at AngloGold Ashanti's Savuka mine near Carletonville, spokesman Alan Fine said on Thursday.
The worker was killed during a fall of ground, triggered by a seismic event which occurred during drilling on Wednesday.
"A team from the department of mineral resources inspectorate is scheduled to carry out an inspection of the accident site today [Thursday]."
Production at the mine was halted.
