The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many South Africans. To obtain critical weather information, the SAWDOS use voluntary weather observers. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe and informed by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the SAWDOS for publication on the Blog. The SAWDOS is a non-profit organization that renders a FREE COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICE.

Oudtshoorn: Storm laat 19 gesinne haweloos

OUDTSHOORN NUUS - ‘n Geweldige wind, wat deur sommige inwoners as ’n mini-tornado beskryf is het op 26 Desember, binne tien minute, verwoesting in Dysselsdorp gesaai en 19 gesinne dakloos gelaat.
Die Oudtshoorn-munisipalitiet moes ingryp om die hawelose gesinne te help. Hulle is tydelik in die Dysselsdorp gemeenskapsaal gehuisves.
Volgens Ntobeko Mangqwengqwe, munisipale woordvoerder het die munisipaliteit sowat 130 komberse en 50 matrasse aan die inwoners voorsien en is seile, pale en dakplate ook verskaf sodat strukture tydelik herstel kan word.
Volgens raadslid Hendrick Botha, wat die storm beleef het, het die wind skielik opgekom. " Ek het by vriende gaan kuier en het meteens net ‘n donker stofwolk oor die bult sien kom en ons was genoodsaak om skuiling in die huis te soek."
