85-year-old woman killed in house fire

An eighty five-year-old woman was killed in a fire that gutted her home on a plot in North Riding this morning. Her two dogs also perished in the blaze.

The cause of the fire and the series of events leading up to it remain uncertain and will form the subject of a South African Police Force investigation.

Netcare911 Paramedics and firefighters arrived at the scene to find the house well alight. Firefighters entered the burning structure and while conducting a search found an elderly woman unconscious. They pulled her from the house and medics took over care.

She was in a critical condition, having suffered severe smoke inhalation. Her condition deteriorated drastically and paramedics were forced to initiate CPR.

Sadly she died at the scene.
