Pythons still on the loose in Johannesburg

Johannesburg - The two large Lavender Albino Reticulated Pythons that went missing in Gallo Manor have still not been found.

The 3m snakes went missing on Tuesday at 06:00 after they climbed up the burglar bars in owner Angi Latimer’s home and pushed down on the door handle, which opened under the weight.

Latimer told News24 a reptile rescuer would be coming to search for the snakes at 13:00 on Thursday. He was allegedly held up by a missing crocodile and got bitten by a puff adder.

“I’m glad it’s warming up a bit, [the weather] might bring the snakes out,” said Latimer.

The reptile rescue specialist uses various techniques to find the snakes, including sniffer dogs to find their scent.

There have been no reports of snake-spottings and Latimer has been to all the neighbours and their gardens.

Latimer asked for calm regarding the situation. “My snakes eat very regularly; they don’t have the fear of not being fed. I just want my snakes back. They’re my babies.”

The snakes only eat rats and are fed once a week. They were last fed on Saturday but can live without being fed for two months.

Latimer asked anyone who has seen the snakes to contact her at angi@reportstar.net.
