A four-year-old boy drowned in a swimming pool at a residence in Horizon View in Roodepoort this afternoon.
The cause of the incident and the series of events preceding it remain uncertain and will form the subject of a South African Police Force investigation.
Common cause information suggests that the boy had been riding a plastic motorcycle around the pool when he fell in. He was immersed for an unknown period of time before he was plucked from the water by a relative.
Netcare911 Paramedics arrived at the scene to find the toddler pulseless and not breathing. They immediately started CPR but despite their best efforts, the boy died at the pool side.
