Johannesburg - Thirty shacks burnt down in Alexandra on Saturday night, Johannesburg emergency services said.
Spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi said the fire erupted on the corners of 6th Avenue and Hofmeyer Street on Saturday evening.
"The fire is under control. Firemen are busy extinguishing the hot-spots," he said.
"The city's Disaster Management will be called in to assist those displaced by the fire."
Mulaudzi said there were no injuries. The cause of the fire is unknown and will be investigated, he said.

There is a lot of accidents happening all over, in the informal settlements because of the products they are using, like candle or paraffin stove or illegal connections. And I have picked up something on my research that when they donate, they also give away paraffin stove or candle, which I understand that is not a solution. But I have good news because I am working in a company called NV-Holdings, we deals with proto stove energy and solar lights. The stove is using ethanol which is not harmful and it is very safe and easy to use.
