Fires destroys 12 shacks – 32 people homeless

NYANGA: Eight shacks and 1 formal dwelling were gutted by a fire that occurred at 21:17 on Saturday, 19 May 2012 at Phase 1, Ntongana Crescent, Lusaka, Nyanga. As a result 21 people were left displaced.

DELFT: Two shacks were gutted by fire leaving 9 people displaced at 6 Kammasie Street, Delft-South, Delft at 22:28 on Saturday, 19 May 2012.

KHAYELITSHA: Five people were left homeless after a fire affected 2 shacks at Koyo Drive, R-Section, Khayelitsha at 23:43 on Saturday, 19 May 2012.

FISANTEKRAAL: One shack was affected by a fire that occurred at 475 Peter Mokaba Street, Fisantekraal near Durbanville on Saturday, 19 May 2012 at 23:57. Three people were left homeless.

BONTEHEUWEL: At 03:17 on Sunday, 20 May 2012 a fire destroyed 1 backyard dwelling at 25 Avocado Street, Bonteheuwel leaving 3 people displaced.

No persons sustained any injuries – all persons were accounted for.

The City’s disaster response teams assisted the victims of fire with food parcels, clothing, blankets and building material this morning.

The circumstances regarding the occurrence of these fires are unknown.
