A 22-year-old woman was arrested on Sunday morning after her five-year-old daughter died when three shacks burned down in Soul City in Kagiso on the West Rand, Gauteng police said.
"The woman left her daughter in the shack. A few hours later someone called her to alert her that her shack was one of those that burned down," said Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya.
"The little girl was burnt beyond recognition. The woman was arrested on the scene for child negligence. No other injuries were reported."
The woman was expected to appear in court soon, said Sibiya.
