CAPE TOWN - Northern Cape police on Monday said they are busy identifying the bodies of 10 illegal miners who died when a tunnel collapsed on them.
Last week, their bodies were brought to Cape Town from Kleinzee.
Rescue personnel managed to save one trapped miner.
The police's Cherelle Ehlers said they were meeting with the victims' loved ones later on Monday.
“We’ll only know later when the families will be able to identify the bodies.”
Rescue operation ended last Thursday after authorities said they were positive there were no more bodies underground.
Meanwhile, the National Union of Mineworkers (Num) has urged mining companies to work with government in combating illegal mining.
