Johannesburg - A fire broke out in an operating theatre at Pretoria West Hospital, the Gauteng health department said on Sunday.
"The fire was contained to one theatre as all doors were closed and no one was injured," spokesperson Simon Zwane said.
A warmer, mattress and the ceiling were damaged in the fire which took place on Saturday night.
Zwane said the infrastructure and development department had done an initial assessment.
"Further investigations are ongoing to establish the exact cause of the fire and to prevent another occurrence of such nature."
Elective surgeries have been cancelled for Monday and emergency procedures would be done in an unaffected theatre at the hospital.
"We would like to assure all patients that service delivery will not be comprised as the result of the unfortunate incident," Zwane said.
