
Italy and Iran had their fair share of earthquakes this last week with Italy again having to experience a severe quake near the city of Bologna, which also resulted in the Ferrari factory being closed temporarily.
Fifteen deaths were reported and many old buildings dating back many centuries were either destroyed or damaged severely.
The Quake in Iran measured 4.8 on the Richter scale at a depth of 10 km and affecting around half a million people but no reports of deaths or serious damage to building were received.
Cyclone MAWAR is heading toward the Philippines with winds reaching around 140 kph and heavy rain is expected in the regions once it reaches the mainland. Floods were also reported this week in Uganda, Russia and also in Honduras.
Locally, the Kleinzee operation is over and we will be reporting fully once we receive a report from Carel, ZS3OBE who initiated the call-out and was assisted by members of Hamnet Western Cape.
The Comrades marathon is currently in progress on the down run from Pietermaritzburg to Durban. Many Hamnet members are involved in providing communications to the main Joint Operational Centre or JOC in Durban.
We will report fully on how the day went once we receive the report from the KZN Team.
We are also in the process of setting up a meeting with Santjie White of the Air Traffic and Navigational Systems and SASAR to discuss the formulation of training and obtaining licences in the future for SASAR amateur radio officials.
A cold front is currently situated in the south Atlantic and we are watching this one as it could turn out to be the first major cold front of the season.
