JOHANNESBURG - A man burned to death on Sunday morning, in a Diepsloot Extension One house fire, Johannesburg Emergency Management Services said.
Residents from the northern Johannesburg township forced open the door, after seeing smoke coming from the house.
Spokesperson for emergency services Synoch Matobako said residents found the man dead at the scene with serious burn wounds.
He said a woman was found lying on the floor and rushed to hospital for smoke inhalation.
Parts of the bed they were laying on burnt seriously.
The cause of the fire is unknown, Matobako said.
This brings to three the number of people who have died in Johannesburg fires this weekend.
Two people burned to death in a house fire on Saturday, in Benoni on the East Rand.
Meanwhile, some 100 shacks were gutted down in the early hours of Sunday, in Heriotdale, south of Johannesburg.
At least 150 people were displaced as a result of the fire, emergency services said.
