[WITBANK, MP – 07 JUNE 2012 AT 13H00]
A coal miner is in a critical condition after suffering a traumatic injury to his leg while busy drilling a hole at a coal mine near to Middleburg this afternoon.
The circumstances around the incident are still not clear but the local ambulance service was on scene and was able to stabilise the patient by means of Advanced Life Support intervention. While they stabilised him further they contacted the ER24 Discovery Medicopter to airlift the patient to Unitas Hospital for rapid medical intervention where trauma staff were waiting to take over the medical care of the patient.
The local authorities were on the scene and would investigate the accident further.
Derrick Banks, ER24
