SEA RESCUE – BETTIES BAY – Sunday, 24th June, 2012. Boat adrift at sea assiste

Giepie Loubser, NSRI Hermanus duty controller, said:

"At 12h04 NSRI Hermanus volunteer sea rescue duty crew were activated following a request for assistance from the local small commercial crayfish boat Born Wild, with 3 crewmen onboard, skipper Pieter Francke, and crewmen Brian Larney and Isirafil Abrahams, reporting engine failure off-shore of Betties Bay and dragging anchor and being blown in the direction of Gansbaai in rough 3 meter choppy sea swells and a 20 knot North Westerly wind.

"Our NSRI Hermanus volunteer sea rescue duty crew towed our sea rescue craft Hunters Gold Rescuer to the Hangklip boat launch site, at 'Mooi Hawe', at the Old Whaling Station, where we launched our sea rescue boat and rendezvoused with the casualty boat 2.5 nautical miles off-shore of Betties Bay, finding all 3 men safe on their boat, and we took their boat under tow and towed her to Mooi Hawe where once their boat was recovered they required no further assistance."
