The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many South Africans. To obtain critical weather information, the SAWDOS use voluntary weather observers. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe and informed by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the SAWDOS for publication on the Blog. The SAWDOS is a non-profit organization that renders a FREE COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICE.

Weather Observation: Cold Front ( 7 - 10 June 2012)
It is winter in parts of South Africa!! Large areas of the country is currently wrapped in a blanket of cold weather with snowfalls reported in some areas. Further snowfalls are expected in parts of the Free State, Lesotho and Kwazulu Natal provinces today. Although heavy snowfall is not forecast it will be cold with ice rain falling in some areas of the country. Gale force winds is expected to continue blowing in areas. Localized flooding occurred in the Cape Flats area yesterday. Further flooding is possible in the Cape Flats area (Nyanga and Gugulethu settlements) today. Disaster Management indicate that 10 000 people were affected by the current severe weather in the Cape Town area. Please keep an eye out for severe weather conditions and inform the SAWDOS accordingly.
