Johannesburg - A mine worker was killed in a rock fall at the Moab Khotsong Mine near Orkney in the North West, AngloGold Ashanti Limited said on Friday.
"...[He] was struck by a fall of ground at 13:45 [on Thursday]," it said in a statement.
"He was immediately evacuated to hospital, but passed away..."
All drilling and blasting operations at the mine were suspended on Thursday night.
An inspection of the accident scene was expected to be carried out shortly.

We at The Dickinson Group sympathise with the family of the deceased. Fall of ground remains the no 1 killer in mines with 25% of deaths. We must pursue all avenues to make mining a save place to work and a attractive option as a career path.
