Several Kamchatkan volcanoes, including Shiveluch, Kizimen, and one or both of Klyuchevskaya and Bezymianny (both are partly hidden by clouds), show signs of activity in this satellite image. Thin gas and ash plumes trail to the southwest from the active volcanoes. The natural-color image was acquired by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard the Aqua satellite on July 13, 2012. (Twice-daily images of Kamchatka are available from the MODIS Rapid Response team).
