SAWDOS Severe Weather Observation Request: 12 - 16 July 2012

This coming weekend could make for some interesting severe weather over parts of South Africa.

A cut-off low is developing that could bring heavy rain and flash flooding to parts of the Western, Southern and Eastern Cape coastal areas. Due to the irregular nature of a cut-off low, the characteristics are generally very difficult to predict.

I need not spell out that a cut-off low can produce heavy rain. So let's keep an eye on this cut-off low and also the predicted snowfalls over parts of South Africa for the next five days. Expected weather conditions: Very Cold, Heavy Rain, Heavy Snowfalls, Rough Seas, Strong Wind, Flash Flooding, Icy conditions recipe for severe weather this weekend.

All SAWDOS Weather Observers and non SAWDOS weather observers are hereby requested to report heavy continuous rain, flash flooding and other adverse weather conditions in their area of observation. The SAWDOS is not sure where and if this heavy rain will occur. Be alert and send observations to the SAWDOS as we will in turn publish the observations to the benefit of the general public.

There is really no better way than real time weather observations by the public when it comes to reporting severe weather in an area.

Send information to:

If you observe any strange weather or disaster send the info to the SAWDOS for publication. Do not assume that the SAWDOS knows for certain that severe weather has occurred in your area. Never assume that your weather observation report is not important.
