A security guard was killed when he was crushed by a falling gate at a factory in the Phoenix Industrial Park in Durban this evening.
The cause of the incident and the series of events leading up to it remain uncertain and will form the subject of a South African Police Force investigation.
Common cause information suggests that the guard had opened the sliding gate which came off its track. The steel gate, which weighs nearly 300kg, fell on the man and crushed him.
Netcare911 Paramedics arrived at the scene to find that the man had sustained critical injuries and had sadly died as a result.
