CAPE TOWN – The body of a man, who is believed to have drowned during a Plettenberg Bay fishing trip, was recovered on Tuesday.
He and five other people went fishing at the Keurbooms River Mouth when their boat was swept out to sea.
The incident took place last week.
Officials recovered the bodies of a mother and her eight-year-old son the following day, and rescue personnel are still searching for three others.
The police's Bernadine Steyn said, “The body was seen offshore near Plettenberg Bay. SAPS divers were deployed and the body was recovered. DNA tests will be conducted to determine the identity of the body.”
At the same, Western Cape police confirmed that the search for a missing Montagu paramedic will only resume when water levels subside.
Mirriam Cekiso's ambulance veered off the Cogmanskloof Bridge and into a raging river last week.
Rescue teams found the ambulance, but the search for her body had to be postponed due to rising water levels.
The police's Frederick van Wyk said it is too dangerous for divers to enter the river.
“The ambulance was found on Wednesday and nobody was found in the vehicle. The search was called off on Saturday due to rain and rising water levels.”
