The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many South Africans. To obtain critical weather information, the SAWDOS use voluntary weather observers. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe and informed by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the SAWDOS for publication on the Blog. The SAWDOS is a non-profit organization that renders a FREE COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICE.

Fire destroys 40 shacks in Masiphumelele – 140 persons displaced
A fire occurred at 11:42 on Tuesday, 07 August 2012 at Site 5, Masiphumelele.
The fire destroyed 40 shacks resulting in the displacement of 140 persons.
The City’s disaster response teams provided hot meals, clothing, blankets, baby packs and building material to the victims earlier today.
It is suspected that a man that went to work failed to switch off his electronic stove that caused the fire.
An inquest docket has been opened to investigate the incident.
No persons sustained any injuries.
The location of the incident is off the Masimola Road, Masiphumelele, Site 5, Hout Bay.
