The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many South Africans. To obtain critical weather information, the SAWDOS use voluntary weather observers. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe and informed by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the SAWDOS for publication on the Blog. The SAWDOS is a non-profit organization that renders a FREE COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICE.

Pretoria paramedics with big hearts
On Saturday afternoon, paramedics from the Pretoria branch were sitting at their base at the Muelmed hospital waiting for their next call when an elderly man walked in.
They immediately asked how they could assist him, and he explained that he was so tired of walking and if they could please just help him get to his destination. He seemed slightly confused, but told them that he was a resident at an old age home in the area.
Without hesitation, they stepped in an offered the man a ride in the ambulance to the home approximately five kilometers away. When they arrived the staff had said he had gone across the road to a shop and had obviously gotten lost; he had walked the five kilometers down the road and that is when he had found the ER24 staff.
The staff at the home were so grateful for their residents’ safe return.
