The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many South Africans. To obtain critical weather information, the SAWDOS use voluntary weather observers. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe and informed by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the SAWDOS for publication on the Blog. The SAWDOS is a non-profit organization that renders a FREE COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICE.

Subject: Very Rough Seas; Very Cold Conditions and gale force winds
Detail: Issued: 16-08-2012 1. Very cold conditions are expected over the extreme northern parts of the Eastern Cape on Thursday. 2. Gale force westerly winds (35kts or 65km/h) are expected in places west of Port Alfred on Thursday. 3. Very rough seas with wave heights between 4 to 6m are expected west of East London, tonight moderating on Saturday.
Northern Cape Province - Warning: Take action
Subject: Very Rough Seas, and Very cold.
Detail: 1. Very cold conditions are expected over the southern high ground of the Northern Cape on Thursday. 3. Very rough seas with wave heights between 4 to 6m are expected tonight, moderating on Saturday.
Western Cape Province - Warning: Take action
Subject: Very Rough Seas, Gale Force Wind, and Very cold.
Detail: 1. Very cold conditions are expected over the western and central high ground of the Western Cape on Thursday. 2. Gale force westerly winds (35kts or 65km/h) are expected in places east of Cape Agulhas on Thursday. 3. Very rough seas with wave heights between 4 to 6m are expected with wave heights reaching 6.5m Friday between Cape Point and Cape Agulhas, moderating on Saturday.
