Toddler drowns in Roodepoort
A toddler has drowned this afternoon in a residential pool in Poortview near Ruimsig in Roodepoort.
It is not known how the three year old came to be in the pool, but the owners of the house found him, having sunk to the bottom of the pool. They immediately pulled the child from the water and started trying to revive the boy, performing CPR on him while they awaited the paramedics.
Rescuers from the Fire Department and ER24 paramedics continued resuscitation efforts on the child but despite a long battle and all of their effort, there was no change in his condition. Sadly, with nothing left that they could do for the little boy, they declared him dead on scene.
The child is the son of the woman who works at the private residence. Local police will be investigating all necessary details surrounding this tragic case. Trauma counsellors were contacted to provide the mother of the child and family who’s home it is with emotional support.
