GEORGE NEWS - Firefighters from Eden and George Fire Services are currently fighting a veld fire next to the Rooirivierrif sport ground opposite Kingswood Golf Estate.
According to the Fire Service control room, the fire brigade was called out at 19:00 last night after a tree had caught fire.
The fire was put out, but just after 07:00 this morning a second call came after it flared up.
The fire was brought under control, but it started again with renewed momentum and firefighthers returned to the scene at about 13:00.
Strong winds are currently driving flames and thick smoke in the direction of Dormehlsdrift.
