Included photo's from the fire on Groot Suikerboschkop, Dullstroom on the 5th October 2012 from +/- 05h00 to 09h00.
The grass on the koppie was not even long so why burn it? If we get lot's of rain like we got in September 127mm, it's going to cause a lot of erosion because of the slope.
This is also a big birding area and home to many species of "Birds of Prey", yet so much brush has been burnt this year killing their food source. If only I could have photographed the number of ground laying birds flying through the smoke trying to save their eggs.
Feel very helpless and angry this afternoon.
Kind regards,
Charl Strydom.
Dullstroom WX.
