The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many South Africans. To obtain critical weather information, the SAWDOS use voluntary weather observers. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe and informed by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the SAWDOS for publication on the Blog. The SAWDOS is a non-profit organization that renders a FREE COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICE.

Missing aircraft found in Mosambique by local villager.
The wreck of the plane that went missing three weeks ago over Mozambique, while traveling from Uganda via Malawi to Lanseria Airport in northern Johannesburg was found in Mozambique by a local villager. Neither the pilot nor passenger survived the impact. Search and Rescue teams were unable to locate the wreck and the official search were called off after an area of 27 000 square kilometres have been covered by the aerial search.
