The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many South Africans. To obtain critical weather information, the SAWDOS use voluntary weather observers. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe and informed by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the SAWDOS for publication on the Blog. The SAWDOS is a non-profit organization that renders a FREE COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICE.

Update: Cold-fronts SW-Cape 20 & 24-25 Nov 2012
A weak cold-front passed over Cape Town during today (Tues 20th). This brought some light rain (1-2mm) mostly near Table Mountain, and somewhat cooler temperatures.
The outlook for this coming weekend remains consistent, with a strong cold front making landfall early on Sat 24th. It should be mostly dry on Sun 25th, but it will remain rather cold.
Numerous model runs (GFS and NOGAPS up to 12Z on Tues 20th) show the possibility of light snow (between 1600-1800m) on the SW-Cape mountains during Sat 24th!
There is still slight uncertainty (96 hours or 4 days in advance) as to the amount of rain and likely freezing-level on Sat 24th, but there is no doubt that this will be a highly unseasonal weather event for Cape Town!
Strong winds are likely at times along most of the SW&S-Cape coast, and large swells (4-5m) will occur later on Sat 24th and during Sun 25th.
