The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many South Africans. To obtain critical weather information, the SAWDOS use voluntary weather observers. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe and informed by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the SAWDOS for publication on the Blog. The SAWDOS is a non-profit organization that renders a FREE COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICE.

1 adult male dies – 10 other people homeless after fires in Cape Town
PHILLIPI: At 02:27 on Saturday, 22 December 2012, one wood and iron structure destroyed was destroyed by a fire at 16769 Daza Street, off Lansdowne Road, Brown’s Farm Informal Settlement, Phillipi. The fire left 4 people homeless.
PARKWOOD: A fire gutted 1 formal house and a backyard dwelling at 27C Parkers Walk, Parkwood that left 2 adults and 4 minors displaced. Tyrone Saal (26 years), died in the fire that was trapped in the bedroom and could not escape the blaze.
The City’s Disaster Response teams assisted the fire victims with the supply of food parcels, blankets, clothing and building material.
The causes of the incidents are unconfirmed.
The authorities will probe an investigation into the spate of these fire occurrences over this weekend.
