The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many South Africans. To obtain critical weather information, the SAWDOS use voluntary weather observers. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe and informed by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the SAWDOS for publication on the Blog. The SAWDOS is a non-profit organization that renders a FREE COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICE.

Update: Injured whale escapes further harm
From reports received it appears that the injured whale that was being followed by three great white sharks earlier today near Bloubergstrand, has managed to evade the sharks, and is swimming with its calf near Robben Island.
The threat posed to beachgoers by the sharks’ presence has now subsided, and the City thanks them for their cooperation.
