SEA RESCUE – EERSTE RIVER – Sunday, 06th January, 2013. Pretoria man dies in Jet-Ski accident
On Sunday, 06th January, at 15h40, NSRI Port Elizabeth deputy station commander Justin Erasmus, while on holiday at Eerste River, between Oyster Bay and Plettenberg Bay, witnessed a jet-ski accident which has claimed the life of a Pretoria man.
The 53 year old Pretoria man launched a jet-ski from the beach in relatively calm sea conditions, said Justin Erasmus, NSRI Port Elizabeth deputy station commander.
He negotiated a wave but on the second waves approach it appeared that the jet-ski launched into the air and when it landed I suspect that the man may have hit his head on the jet-ski, said Justin.
The man had fallen off the jet-ski.
He was recovered from the surf by myself with the assistance of his friends and Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation efforts were initiated.
EC Government Health EMS and Police arrived on-scene and paramedics declared the man dead.
The body of the man was handed into the care of the Forensic Pathology Services and Police have opened an inquest docket.
