One person died in a veld fire outside Ceres in the Western Cape on Wednesday, a traffic officer in the area said.
Winston Koeries said the fire was raging in Mitchells Park between Ceres and Wolseley shortly before 3pm on Wednesday afternoon.
"I can confirm that a person lost their life in the fire," he said.
The cause of the blaze, which was being fanned by strong winds, was not immediately known.
A fire had also started on the Tulbagh side of the mountain.
