Rottweiler mauls toddler on Clifton beach

A two-year-old girl was bitten by a Rottweiler on Clifton main beach on Wednesday, said paramedics.

"We are not sure what happened and why she was bitten, but when paramedics arrived at the beach they found the child in severe pain," said ER24 spokesman Andre Visser.

"She sustained puncture wounds to her left calf," he said, describing the severity of the injury as moderate.

Visser said a passing doctor attended to the child, who was later taken to the Cape Town Mediclinic.

"We are uncertain what happened to the dog and its owner," he said.
