[POTCHEFSTROOM – 13 APRIL 2012 AT 18H00]
A seventeen year old boy is in a serious condition after he fell off of a train that was travelling between Vereeniging and Sebokeng when the incident took place this afternoon.
ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene and found the teenager lying next to the railway line and in a lot of pain. They assessed him and found that he had suffered a possible head injury, a broken leg and traumatic injuries to both ankles. Advanced Life Support intervention was performed on the patient before he was carried to the ambulance using specialised equipment. He was transported to Mediclinic Vereeniging in a serious but stable condition for further medical care.
It is believed that the teenager was between coaches when the train went around a bend and somehow lost his balance and fell over. The patient is lucky he did not fall underneath the train at that time.
