[POTCHEFSTROOM – 13 APRIL 2012 AT 17H00]
A woman believed to be 5 months pregnant has sustained minor injuries after falling into a manhole on New Market Street near to the taxi rank in Potchefstroom this afternoon.
ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene and found the woman seated next to the manhole where she had fallen into. Paramedics assessed the patient and found that she had suffered very minor abrasions. The patient was taken to Potchefstroom Provincial Hospital for a further medical examination to make sure her baby was okay.
It is believed that the manhole was covered with some sort of metal. The patient thought it was okay to walk over. The weight of her caused the metal to fold in and caused the patient to fall into the hole. Members of the public were able to help her out and waited until the medical personnel arrived.
