Forty five farm workers were injured, several of whom seriously, in truck accident on the Meats Road outside Bethlehem in the Free State earlier this morning.
The cause of the accident and the series of events preceding it remain uncertain and will form the subject of a South African Police Force investigation.
Common cause information suggests that nearly one hundred and twenty five (125) farm workers were being ferried on the back of the heavy goods truck when one of the side walls gave way. The workers spilled from the bed of the truck onto the roadway.
Netcare911 Paramedics arrived at the mass casualty accident to find the injured lying near the roadway. Paramedics initiated care, stabilising the injured at the scene before they were transported by ambulance to nearby state medical facilities.
