The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many South Africans. To obtain critical weather information, the SAWDOS use voluntary weather observers. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe and informed by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the SAWDOS for publication on the Blog. The SAWDOS is a non-profit organization that renders a FREE COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICE.

Photos: M4 Ruth First Highway bridge over Blue Lagoon/Umgeni partially collapses
(Photos: ER24)
No-one has been injured.
The city's Carlos Esteves says the pedestrian sidewalk collapsed due to a structural failure on the north-east corner of the barrier.
The parapit wall has also collapsed due to ageing.
He says the road has temporarily been closed to allow city maintenance to make the area safe.
One lane will be opened in the next hour (11am), and the second lane will be opened later in the day.
Esteves has advised motorists travelling on the road to divert off the M4 before the Riverside Road off-ramp to avoid delays.
