Johannesburg - Four children were killed in two separate shack fires in Johannesburg, the city's emergency service said on Tuesday morning.
One fire in Drisiek, near Orange Farm, was caused by an illegal electricity connection, spokesperson Synock Matobako said.
A five-year-old boy and an eight-year-old girl were killed in the 3am blaze. Their parents were not in the shack at the time.
In another fire in Soweto on Monday night, two boys, aged five and seven, were killed.
“The children became trapped and could not escape,” said Matobako.
Their parents were also not in the shack at the time.
