Heavy rainfall lashing Cape Town – disaster teams deployed to assist


The heavy rainfall that is currently been experienced across the Cape Peninsula is affecting numerous areas in Cape Town.

The City’s disaster response teams has been activated and deployed to the following areas to assess the impact of following:

1. Kosovo: Sivuyle
2. Sweet Homes: Sections E, F, G and H
3. Nyanga: NY13
4. Wallacedene: Skiet Crescent and the temporary relocation area
5. Nomzamo: Ethembeni
6. Brown’s Farm
7. Phillipi: Monwood, Siyashazele, Vleis Park, Sheffield Road, Nyunwini
8. Khayelitsha: Block 6 and 8, Phantsi Kozingo, Ngolube, Siyahlala, Site B and YB Section
9.Masiphumelele (Site 5), Fish Hoek area
10. Strand: Solly’s Town and New Village
11. Strand: Uitkyk, Rasta Camp, Pinetown, Rooidakkies and Kanaal informal settlements – 480 people are housed in the local community hall.
12. Delft Temporary relocation area: 500 homes that are illegally occupied are not flooded, however sand bags are provided to prevent houses been flooded. Law enforcement officials are on the scene.

The rainfall that started yesterday over the Cape Peninsula will persist for today and will clear by tomorrow morning as predicted by the SA Weather Service.

The City of Cape Town’s Disaster Risk Management Centre together with its supporting disaster response agencies and public safety authorities are on high alert following warning messages issued regarding severe weather conditions that is expected for the weekend.
